Last night I saw Drayton Farley and Jonathan & Abigail Peyton at Lafayette's Music Room in Memphis, Tennessee. I had been looking forward to this show for a while now and I was definitely not disappointed.
Jonathan & Abigail Peyton started the night off with a beautiful set. Both Jonathan and Abigail have captivating voices that blend perfectly together. They sound just as good live as they do on their recordings, if not better.
Throughout their set, in between songs, Jonathan shared various stories about his life as well as the stories behind some of his songs. I really enjoyed this aspect of their performance and I feel that it made me appreciate his music even more. One of the stories he shared was his experience last November at Red Rocks.
Last November, Jonathan & Abigail were supposed to open for Zach Bryan at Red Rocks but, due to the winter weather, their set as well as Charles Wesley Godwin's set had to be canceled. This was definitely a letdown for them but they made the best of the situation: Jonathan & Abigail came and played in the parking lot for the people tailgating before the show.
I was there for that and I think about "Snow Rocks" all the time. It was definitely one of the most memorable concert experiences I have ever had. Even though the weather caused a huge change in plans, it did give everyone a pretty cool story to tell.
Drayton Farley and his band took the stage next. While I have seen Drayton live before, this was my first time seeing him play with a band. Drayton and his band played so well together that, at first, I thought that they had been playing together for years. So I was shocked when Drayton told the story of how the band was put together back in March of this year, right before his tour started.
Throughout his entire set, it was evident how thankful Drayton is for his fans and the opportunity that he has to share his songs with us. He thanked the crowd countless times and even called us the sweetest crowd he's had.
I had the chance to talk with Drayton briefly at the end of the night. He was extremely kind and personally thanked us multiple times for coming to the show. He even signed the setlist for me!
All in all, I had a great time at this concert. I've been a fan of both Drayton and Jonathan & Abigail for a while now and it was so nice to see them perform live again.
