In recent weeks, a good amount of great music has been released. In this post, I will discuss some of the recent releases that I have been enjoying lately. Of course, this isn't an exclusive list as that would be a very lengthy article.
Family Ties - Charles Wesley Godwin
I had been looking forward to the release of this album since before the sampler for this album was even released and I was definitely not disappointed by it. This album truly showcases Charles Wesley Godwin's talents as an artist and the breadth of his sound and style. In addition to the great music, I absolutely love the album art for Family Ties.
My top three favorite songs off this album, as of now, are 'The Flood', '10-38', and 'Soul Like Mine'.
I cannot wait to hear some of these songs live when I see Charles (with Cole Chaney AND Wyatt Flores) at the Ryman in December.
Southall - Southall
I've been a fan of Southall (formerly Read Southall Band) for a while now. Even though I became a fan because of their old sound, I also love their new sound. I deeply enjoy watching my favorite artists and bands grow and evolve over time and this is a prime example of that.
This album is truly a no-skip album for me. As of now, my favorites from this album are 'Short and Sweet', 'All I Have', and 'When You're Around'.
Zach Bryan - Zach Bryan
If you know me, you know it's no surprise that this album made this list. In short, I wholeheartedly love this album. This album is a prime example of what Zach has been saying all along - he isn't a country artist and he doesn't confine himself to a specific genre. In this album, Zach explores different sounds and genres and collaborates with various talented artists: The War and Treaty, Sierra Ferrell, Kacey Musgraves, and The Lumineers.
It's so hard for me to pick favorites off this album but if I had to, my top three would be: 'Jake's Piano - Long Island', 'Ticking', and 'Tourniquet'. I also have to mention 'Overtime' as an honorable mention mainly for its intro. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but the NASCAR-themed intro is just perfect.
I'm also loving Zach Bryan's most recent release, an EP titled, 'Boys of Faith' which dropped last week. I actually wrote about it in last week's blog! If you haven't read it yet, click here to read.
Diamondhead - J.R. Carroll
I am so happy this song is finally out. I had been excitedly awaiting the release of 'Diamondhead' for a while now. I can recall listening to J.R. play this song on his Instagram Lives as well as at his live performances way before this song was even out. When I saw J.R. with Zach Bryan in Tulsa back in August, he played this song and I was the only one in my vicinity who knew the lyrics.
Also, if you haven't heard the exciting news, J.R. is going to be dropping more new music soon! In a recent Instagram post, he stated that 3 songs are coming in October and we can expect a new album before the end of the year!
