This past Wednesday was one of my favorite days of the year: Spotify Wrapped Day. Spotify Wrapped presents Spotify users with highlights from their listening history over the past year. Some insights include showing users what artists they listened to most and what their most listened-to songs were. In this post, I discuss my 2023 Spotify Wrapped in greater detail than just the summary that Spotify provides.
As I previously mentioned, Spotify Wrapped Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It is something that I look forward to each year; it truly is a holiday in my eyes. Not only do I look forward to seeing my Spotify Wrapped each year, but I also look forward to seeing my friends’ as well.
While some complain about the abundance of Spotify Wrapped posts on social media, I like seeing everyone’s posts about it. When people post about their Spotify Wrapped, I get a glimpse into their music tastes and preferences, which I really enjoy.
Now let’s dive into my Spotify Wrapped.
In 2023, I streamed music on Spotify for a total of 106,404 minutes which is apparently equivalent to 73 days. I was also reported to be in the top 1% of Spotify listeners worldwide. I’d say I’m really getting my money’s worth when it comes to my Spotify Premium subscription.

According to Spotify, my listening peaked on September 2nd when I listened to 1,295 minutes or 21.5 hours worth of music. I actually don’t remember listening to that much music in one day but apparently, I did.
Honestly, I wasn’t surprised by how many minutes I streamed music on Spotify in 2023. I am constantly listening to music no matter what I’m doing and I typically fall asleep listening to music. My minutes listened have actually decreased over the years. In 2022, it was 142,161 minutes, and in 2021, it was 145,488 minutes.
This year, I reportedly listened to 95 different genres of music. This is surprising to me but I’ve also noticed that Spotify has an abundance of genre classifications which likely inflates this number. While my music taste is quite diverse, I don’t necessarily think it is that diverse. According to Spotify, my most popular genres over the past year were Modern Country Pop, Red Dirt, Pop, Country, and Indie Folk.
I also played 5,074 different songs in 2023. This number is honestly shocking to me. I listen to a lot of different songs but I never realized just how many different songs I listen to. Of these 5,074 songs, my top song for the year was ‘Dawns’ by Zach Bryan and Maggie Rogers.
I reportedly streamed ‘Dawns’ 669 times during 2023. This adds up because, when the song was released, I would listen to it on repeat on a fairly regular basis and I also put this song on almost every playlist I make. Though, interestingly enough, I wouldn’t say that ‘Dawns’ is my favorite Zach Bryan song.

Spotify doesn’t just report your top song for the year, it includes your top 5 songs for the year in your Wrapped and also generates a playlist consisting of your top 100 songs of the year. My top 5 songs for the year were all Zach Bryan songs.
This doesn’t necessarily surprise me as my sleep playlist is mainly Zach songs. If I didn’t have this sleep playlist, I am certain that my top songs would have differed greatly. While I do love all the songs in my top 5, there are other songs that I listen to more during my waking hours.
My top 5 songs were:
'Dawns' by Zach Bryan and Maggie Rogers
'Starved - demo' by Zach Bryan
'The Good I’ll Do' by Zach Bryan
'From Austin' by Zach Bryan
'Letting Someone Go' by Zach Bryan
One interesting thing is that two of my top 5 songs for 2023 were also part of my top 5 songs for 2022. Both ‘From Austin’ and ‘Letting Someone Go’ were part of my top 5 songs for both 2023 and 2022.
In 2023, I listened to 1,995 artists. This number also shocks me. I know that I listen to a lot of different artists but I never thought I listened to that many different artists. Out of these 1,995, my top artist for the year was the one and only, Zach Bryan. This probably comes as no shock as my top 5 songs are all Zach songs. Plus, if you know me, even vaguely, this is definitely no surprise. I mean, I have 5 Zach tattoos — what else would you expect?

This is the second year in a row that Zach has been my top artist. In both 2022 and 2023, I was in the top 0.01% of Zach’s listeners. This year, I listened to his music for 30,184 minutes and in 2022, I listened to his music for 26,555 minutes. This year, Zach’s music accounted for over 28% of my total listening.
My top 5 artists for 2023 were:
Zach Bryan
Taylor Swift
Phoebe Bridgers
Noah Kahan
Bon Iver
I was honestly shocked that no other country artists made my top artists for 2023. I was just certain that at least J.R. Carroll would have made the top 5. However, according to my Stats.fm, J.R. Carroll, Charles Wesley Godwin, Jason Isbell, and Flatland Calvary were all a part of my top 10 artists for 2023.
In addition to detailing who my top five artists were for the year, Spotify also included insights about when I leaned heavily into these artists’ music. My peak listening month for Zach Bryan was January. This was likely due to the release of ‘Dawns’ which I listened to on repeat all the time right after it was released. For Taylor Swift, my peak listening month was March. I honestly don’t know how my peak month was in March. I think that I have been listening to her a lot more in the past couple of months than I did earlier this year.
My peak listening month for Phoebe Bridgers was apparently April. Like with Taylor, I also feel that I listened to Phoebe more later in the year than I did back in April. My peak listening month for Noah Kahan was June. This makes sense as I started to lean more into the folk genre around this time. Finally, for Bon Iver, my peak listening month was September which makes total sense as I was on a heavy Bon Iver kick around this time.
For this year’s Wrapped, Spotify also generated different ‘personalities’ for users. My listener personality was a ‘Time Traveler’. The description for this personality was that I “travel back in time and listen to songs on repeat, again and again”. This definitely fits my listening style at times.

Also in this year’s Wrapped, Spotify provided users with a city that ‘listened just like them’. For me, and many of my friends, we got Bozeman, Montana. In my Wrapped, it stated that, in Bozeman, people are far more likely to be fans of Zach Bryan, J.R. Carroll, and Kat Hasty. So, maybe I should look into moving to Bozeman.
If you would like to listen to my 2023 Spotify Wrapped playlist, you can click here! This playlist was generated by Spotify and includes my top 100 songs of 2023. I will say, it is mostly a mix of my top genres and artists, but there are a few curveballs on there including 'Hey Baby' by Pitbull and 'Love Bites' by Def Leppard.
I’d love to hear about your Spotify Wrapped! You can share with me in the comments of this post. Feel free to tell me whatever details you would like, whether it be who your top artist was or what your listener personality is!
